25 Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) Cooperatives were successfully convened by the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs – BARMM, through its Ancestral Domain Division, on IP COOPERATIVE CONGRESS 2024. The event, themed “Stronger Together Today for a Brighter Tomorrow,” was held at the City Mall Convention Hall in Cotabato City.

One of the primary aims of the IP Cooperative Congress was to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing among IP cooperatives, with a particular focus on addressing the challenges they face. Many cooperatives often struggle with management, financial sustainability, and limited resources for developing their activities. To address these issues, key institutions like CSEA, MAFAR, and Land Bank were identified as strategic partners by the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs. Their technical support is crucial in facilitating partnerships between IP cooperatives and government agencies, providing access to programs and resources that can empower cooperative operations and promote self-sufficiency.

In her message during the IP Cooperative Congress, Rodolyn P. Andres, CPA, Chief, Ancestral Domain Division – MIPA stated, “To address the common challenges faced by cooperatives, we have identified key institutions such as CSEA, MAFAR, and Land Bank as strategic partners. Their technical support is essential in fostering partnerships between Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) cooperatives and government agencies.”

Hayat M. Pilas, DPA, Chief of the Cooperative Division at CSEA-BARMM, emphasized, “We offer partnerships that provide technical assistance and programs, empowering you to manage your cooperatives and make them nationally and internationally competitive.”

The IP Cooperative Congress 2024 was not just an event; it was a testament to our collective resilience and the unyielding spirit of Indigenous Peoples. As Hon. Melanio U. Ulama reminded us, we must adhere to the requirements set forth while striving for integrity in our endeavors. The journey towards sustainable development is indeed challenging, but as we unite under the banner of cooperation, we can pave the way for brighter futures for our communities.

As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our mission to empower our cooperatives, ensuring that we not only dream but also act for a more prosperous tomorrow. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will succeed!
